Russian Speaking Youth Leadership Conference

  • The Annual Russian-Speaking Youth Leadership Conference is committed to addressing the concerns and needs of Russian-Speaking students and to helping each student reach his/her fullest potential. The purpose of this conference is to promote youth leadership within the Russian-Speaking community in Oregon and SW Washington. Students explore career and educational opportunities and celebrate their culture. They also learn about paths to scholarships, how to plan early for college, and how to apply to one. Conference themes include leadership and career development, cultural heritage, staying in school and after school activities. Students also learn how to apply for the U.S. – Russia Expertise Exchange, a program that provides fellowships for emerging professionals to travel to Russia.

Since 1997 the conference served an instrumental role in bringing the Russian-speaking youth together to discuss challenges and develop meaningful opportunities and ways to address them on the community wide level via youth, parent, school and other community involvement. Past participants have included high school students from ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, Centennial, David Douglas, Parkrose, Gresham, Milwaukie, Silverfalls, Woodburn, Beaverton, Vancouver, Washington, Salem and other school districts.
