2020 Bond Security Projects - $25,900,000
2020 Bond funds for the Security Program include:
- Adding locking hardware to all classroom doors throughout the district.
- Updating intrusion alarm systems.
- Adding additional security cameras.
Adding New Locking Hardware to Classroom Doors
Previously, the majority of classrooms throughout the District required use of a key or a substandard lock to secure a classroom door. Bond funds were used to upgrade all classroom door locks to the current district standard that allows for a door to be secured by hand from the inside of a classroom. Roughly 81 sites, and a total of over 2,900 door locations have received new door hardware.September 2024 Locking Hardware Update - Project Complete!
Work on all classroom and common area locking hardware upgrades was completed in September 2024. Classrooms inside each building can now be locked from the interior by pushing a button on the lever; teachers no longer need to open the classroom door to lock the handle with a key. Doors with panic bars, which are commonly found in larger spaces, can be locked from the inside by turning the thumb turn until the indicator says “locked.” These doors will still allow free egress when locked from the interior, but prevent access from the exterior unless a key is used. A considerable number of fire doors that were assumed to be, or tested positive for, hazardous materials (230 doors across 23 sites) were replaced with new hardware that is compliant with the standards mentioned previously.Portable classrooms have been provided with door hardware that will remain locked from the exterior at all times, while also allowing free egress. This hardware was installed on all portables in October 2023.
Updating Intrusion Alarm Systems.
Bond funds are also being used to upgrade or replace intrusion alarm systems to allow for remote control and integration with other building security systems. OSM is assisting the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Facilities & Asset Management department's existing program to upgrade these systems at all of our schools. OSM is doing work on approximately 30 of those schools.Nov. 2024 Intrusion Alarm Update
Work is underway now and Phase One is complete with the 15 schools receiving alarm systems. OSM's Phase 2 work with the final 15 schools is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024. Out of the 112 intrusion systems throughout the district (schools and admin buildings), 91 have been completed (by ½ûÂþÌìÌà facilities and Bond). The remaining 21 schools should all be completed by January 2026.Installing Additional Security Cameras
Installation of additional security cameras at nearly all ½ûÂþÌìÌà schools began in May 2023. The project was broken into several phases that will be completed in early 2025. The Phase One group of 15 schools has been completed. The Phase Two group of 27 more schools will be completed by the summer of 2025 and the Phase Three group of 43 schools will be completed by early 2026.Nov. 2024 Security Camera Update
The installation work on all 15 schools of the phase 1 group has been completed. Construction is underway now on Phase 2 schools and bids are out for Phase 3 schools. Phase 2 work is estimated to be completed in early 2025. Phase 3 work is estimated to be completed in early 2026.Jefferson High School Security Camera work - Completed Jan 2024
In response to incidents at Jefferson High School in 2022, several new cameras were added to the exterior of the school in the first weeks of 2023. As of January 2024, ½ûÂþÌìÌà has completed the installation of all interior and exterior cameras at Jefferson, adding another 12 exterior and over 30 interior cameras to the campus.
