The school has current opportunities to hire para-subs to support our teaching staff.
We have 9 para-professionals on our staff that support students in so many ways - from helping during lunchtime to supporting student communication, and working to build positive relationships between all kids in our school community. Our paras are known and trusted adults at our school who we deeply appreciate and are essential to providing a safe and supportive school environment!
We need your help in hiring substitute para-educators who will be available to work at Sitton (and other schools in North Portland) on days that work with their personal schedules. Substitute para-educators often work 1:1 or with small groups with students on days when our regular para-educators are absent. There is almost always a need! This can be an ideal position for parents or caregivers who have school-aged children, as the start and end times match our Sitton calendar. To be a substitute para-educator, you must recognize the assets that all children bring, believe there is strength in difference, and be flexible. You must also have a high school diploma or higher and take the para-pro exam in English (we have preparation books and will help you study!) and be able to pass a background check. More information on qualifications, pay and benefits .
Our little slice of North Portland has shown up for each other in so many ways over the past few years and I have no doubt we will show up now! If this sounds like the position for you, please reach out via email, in-person, or call Ms. Berry at rberry@pps.net. Please also consider passing this along to anyone you think might be a good fit for this position or share on social media. Please also know that this is very much an entry-level position where folks can gain skills. This is one way we can make sure every student has the support they need to reach their full potential!
