• Safe Routes to Schools
Portland, Oregon’s Safer Routes to School (SR2S) is a coalition-led program that brings transportation together in partnership with our schools, neighborhoods, and community organizations to encourage students & families to get to and from school in ways that reduce traffic, increase safety, build strong bodies and clear minds, and provide a cleaner environment.

The Portland Safer Routes to School program currently provides Education, Encouragement, Engineering, Enforcement, and Evaluation in an Equitable manner (6 ‘E’s) to support students in schools to: Be Safe. Have Fun. Grow Healthy. Get There.

The Safe Routes to School maps identify recommended walking and biking routes to your school. They show neighborhood parks, safer low-traffic streets, off-street paths, and bikes lanes. Difficult intersections, high traffic streets, and traffic signals are also identified. Streets with sidewalks are denoted on the SW school maps.

    Safety Patrol
Student Safety Patrols enhance enforcement of drop-off and pick-up procedures at school by increasing safety for students and traffic flow efficiency for parents. Such efforts allow students to participate in promoting traffic safety where they learn skills they can use in their everyday lives. (Safe Routes to School Guide)
