Why Russian? / §©§Ñ§é§Ö§Þ §å§é§Ú§ä§î §â§å§ã§ã§Ü§Ú§Û §ñ§Ù§í§Ü?
Alongside high demand for immersion education, Portland’s growing Slavic community has requested courses in Russian across grade levels. An exceptionally high concentration of native Russian speakers, including qualified teachers, exists in the four-county area surrounding Portland.
The 2004 American Community Survey reports that Russian is spoken at home in the City of Portland by 9,790 persons and in the four-county area by 27,806 persons (over the age of 5 years). More than 700 Russian-speaking students attend ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ.
As the eighth most widely spoken language in the world, particularly in the opening economies of Central Asia, it is designated by US Government as a critical need language for US national and economic security.
In recognition of these trends the College Board added Russian to the advance placement exam offerings and the National Security Education Program now funds advanced level Russian language flagship programs at a number of universities.
Difficulty in learning the language makes it a good candidate for early education.§£ §Õ§à§á§à§Ý§ß§Ö§ß§Ú§Ö §Ü §Ò§à§Ý§î§ê§à§Û §á§à§ä§â§Ö§Ò§ß§à§ã§ä§Ú §Ó §à§Ò§å§é§Ö§ß§Ú§Ú §á§à §Þ§à§Õ§Ö§Ý§Ú §á§à§Ô§â§å§Ø§Ö§ß§Ú§ñ, §â§Ñ§ã§ä§å§ë§Ñ§ñ §á§à§â§ä§Ý§Ö§ß§Õ§ã§Ü§Ñ§ñ §ã§Ý§Ñ§Ó§ñ§ß§ã§Ü§Ñ§ñ §à§Ò§ë§Ú§ß§Ñ §á§â§à§ã§Ú§ä §á§â§à§Ó§à§Õ§Ú§ä§î §Ù§Ñ§ß§ñ§ä§Ú§ñ §á§à §â§å§ã§ã§Ü§à§Þ§å §ñ§Ù§í§Ü§å §Ó§à §Ó§ã§Ö§ç §Ü§Ý§Ñ§ã§ã§Ñ§ç. §£ §é§Ö§ä§í§â§×§ç §Ô§Ö§à§Ô§â§Ñ§æ§Ú§é§Ö§ã§Ü§Ú§ç §â§Ñ§Û§à§ß§Ñ§ç §Ó§à§Ü§â§å§Ô §±§à§â§ä§Ý§Ö§ß§Õ§Ñ §ã§Ü§à§ß§è§Ö§ß§ä§â§Ú§â§à- §Ó§Ñ§ß§à §Ú§ã§Ü§Ý§ð§é§Ú§ä§Ö§Ý§î§ß§à §Ò§à§Ý§î§ê§à§Ö §Ü§à§Ý§Ú§é§Ö§ã§ä§Ó§à §ß§à§ã§Ú§ä§Ö§Ý§Ö§Û §â§å§ã§ã§Ü§à§Ô§à §ñ§Ù§í§Ü§Ñ, §Ú §Ó §ä§à§Þ §é§Ú§ã§Ý§Ö §Ü§Ó§Ñ§Ý§Ú§æ§Ú§è§Ú§â§à§Ó§Ñ§ß§ß§í§ç §å§é§Ú§ä§Ö§Ý§Ö§Û.
