Education Facilities Vision
Prior to the development of the Education Specifications to support the 2012 voter approved capital bond program, the Office of School Modernization undertook a community engagement process to assess the community's vision for the future of school buildings in ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ.
The vision and key themes presented in the Education Facilities Vision summarize a series of targeted community-based activities with 16 groups and organizations and online survey participants around questions about how to create and provide school environments that nurture, inspire, and challenge students that are safe, healthy and accessible to all. Notes from these conversations can be found in the Appendix of the Education Facilities Visioning document. The vision process also incorporates the community engagement efforts of the Office of School Modernization prior to the successful November 2012 vote on the District's school construction bond proposal.

Education Specifications (Ed Specs)
The ½ûÂþÌìÌà Ed Specs document building planning and design criteria which define the criteria for facilities which support the equitable delivery of curriculum and programs for all students. The Ed Specs are the planning guide for project teams to use during the design of school facilities and identify requirements for space planning, furnishings and equipment integration, site arrangement, and program support.
- The planning principles in the Education Facilities Vision document are the conceptual basis for design decisions and are to be used in close coordination with the detailed requirements in the Ed Spec.
- During school modernization planning, Ed Spec requirements are used in a comprehensive planning process to identify the school's building and site programming needs for curriculum and supports through staff, student, and community engagement.
- This information is incorporated into the modernization project's program area matrix during early design and subsequently into design and construction documents for stakeholder review to ensure that facilities will provide equitable program support.
- Criteria in the Ed Specs also inform ongoing ½ûÂþÌìÌà program changes and space planning adjustments in schools not undergoing full modernization.
