Environmental Scan of Employee Experience
-
As part of our ½ûÂþÌìÌà Strategic Plan, , we are engaging in a number of strategic actions to drive toward our goal of having a diverse, high-quality and thriving workforce where every employee is supported in personal and professional well-being and success.
One of the first steps is to deepen our shared understanding of the employee experience through an environmental scan of current practices, policies, and perspectives. This environmental scan is intended to amplify needs that have already been shared in existing data (i.e. previous surveys, reports, focus groups) and provide opportunities for employees to share additional information about their experience as a ½ûÂþÌìÌà employee.
With funding through our one-time HB 4030 Education Staff Retention and Recruitment grant, we partnered with Education Northwest, a local, non-profit research organization, to support the data-gathering process in winter 2022 and prepared a report on the findings and recommendations in Spring 2023. The executive summary of the report can be found here.
The findings and recommendations within the environmental scan inform the priorities and goals of the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Human Resources team.

-
Understand the research and best practices in K-12 organizations related to each area of the employee life cycle.

Identify where current policies, practices, and infrastructure support a healthy and thriving employee experience.

-
Why does ½ûÂþÌìÌà need to complete an environmental scan?
Throughout the last few years, ½ûÂþÌìÌà has collected information and feedback from some employee groups about specific issues or needs; however, this environmental scan is intended to provide a comprehensive look at the needs of all employees, across all employee groups, with a focus on the experiences of our diverse educators. The environmental scan will amplify what has been shared in existing data (i.e. previous surveys, reports, focus groups) and provide an opportunity for all employees to share about their experiences as a ½ûÂþÌìÌà employee.
-
How is ½ûÂþÌìÌà funding the environmental scan?
½ûÂþÌìÌà is using a small portion of our one-time HB 4030 Education Staff Recruitment and Retention grant to fund the environmental scan. One of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ' core strategies is to better understand the root cause of recruitment and retention challenges. Find more information on HB 4030 .
