    CTE Advisory Committees Support Students & Teachers

    Business and community partnerships are a vital element of a state-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) Program of Study. Each of Lincoln's five CTE Advisory Committees is made up of individuals with experience and expertise in a relevant occupational field. This group of business, industry, and labor representatives advise our faculty on the design, development, implementation, evaluation of their programs and help build capacity, pulling in new resources and expertise which provide students and staff with opportunities they could never realize otherwise.

     Why You Might Join a CTE Advisory Committee

    Serve on an Advisory Committee to share your knowledge and understanding of your area of specialization or industry. Your expertise is essential in helping Lincoln High School address trends in the industry, identify skills needed in employees and to help our teachers build a high quality program. If you are passionate about talent development in your industry and have a heart for Lincoln High School, please contact Principal Peyton Chapman. These are our five official CTE Programs of Study:

    • Business & Management
    • Computer Science Tech
    • Culinary Arts
    • Mass Communications
    • Product Design

    What you Might Do

    Advisory Committee Members share ideas and perspectives, adding value to our programs. We are not interested in asking busy professionals to “rubber stamp” what already exists, but sincerely seek your expertise to help our CTE programs grow and expand. Committees are required to meet at least twice per year, but once an academic quarter (four times) is more likely. Here is partial list of how Advisory Committee Members can help:

    • Suggest enhancements to focus the curriculum
    • Review teaching materials for accuracy and relevancy
    • Provide students with career-related learning experiences such as simulations, job shadows, laboratory experiences, company tours, internships, paid work experiences
    • Teach a module or topic in your area of expertise or on employer expectation and power skills (e.g. work ethic, teamwork, interpersonal communication, curiosity, persistence, flexibility, time management, problem solving)
    • Share libraries of visual aids, books, and magazines
    • Invite faculty or students to relevant professional development or training with your employees
    • Support instructors’ memberships/participation in business or trade associations 
    • Advise on resource needs and assist in the leverage or acquisition of resources (equpment, materials,etc.)
    • Advocate for CTE in the community, possibly communicating with legislators, arranging publicity, presenting programs to civic groups, and authoring  articles for trade publications or related media

    Lincoln students participate in Career-Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs) to meet the personalized learning requirements of the Oregon Diploma. As a Career Consultant for LHS (and/or other ½ûÂþÌìÌà high schools) you help introduce students to the world-of-work. Students want to hear your career story, see your workplace and understand the skills and education valued by your specific company and your industry. 

    Examples of CRLEs

    • Host a Job Shadow
    • Organize a company tour
    • Present in a CTE or other carer-related elective classroom
    • Sponsor an internship
