Tribal History/Shared History - 8th Grade

  • General Overview

    In 2017, Senate Bill (SB) 13, now commonly known as Tribal History/Shared History, mandated the Oregon Department of Education to develop Native American curriculum for integration into all K-12 public schools and to provide professional development to educators within these schools.  The Oregon Department of Education collaborated closely with the nine federally recognized Tribes in Oregon to create the .

     

    This comprehensive statewide curriculum aims to respectfully explore the Native American experience in Oregon, encompassing tribal history, sovereignty, cultural practices, treaty rights, governance, socioeconomic perspectives, and current events. It adheres to standards of historical accuracy, cultural significance, community involvement, contemporary relevance, developmental appropriateness, and aligns with academic content standards as outlined in ORS 329.045.
