Background Checks for Badges with ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ
Our security team conducts background checks and issues ID cards for ½ûÂþÌìÌà employees, paid contractors, and interns accepted into programs working towards their TSPC licensure.
Please refer to the information headers on this page specific to the type of badge you are applying for.If you do not find the answer you need in the tabs, please email backgroundcheck@pps.net with your questions.
Applicants who wait more than 60 days to complete their fingerprint and/or badge appointments may be required to reapply and may need to pay new fees. Do not initiate the background check process if you do not intend to complete all steps required for your badge type within 45 days of submitting your application to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ. Please contact backgroundcheck@pps.net if there are extenuating circumstances.
Please note that most fingerprinting is now conducted offsite. We will give you the information to schedule an appointment after you submit your paperwork and payment receipt.

Renewing a contractor background check
½ûÂþÌìÌà requires contractors to complete the full background check process every 3 years. If your contractor badge has expired, please follow the standard contractor process outlined below.
Step 1: Submit ½ûÂþÌìÌà fees and forms
Pay ½ûÂþÌìÌà background check/fingerprinting fee online

- Fee is $82.00. This covers ½ûÂþÌìÌà and ODE background check costs;
- Complete ½ûÂþÌìÌà Criminal History Verification Form: CHV FORM
- Incomplete forms may be rejected. Please confirm all applicant fields have been filled in. Call 503-916-3000 with questions.
- Please give complete addresses when you are able. At minimum, you must enter the city, state and zip code of where you have resided in the last 10 years.
- Email the receipt and a pdf of the criminal history form to: backgroundcheck@pps.net
- Subject line of email should include applicant’s name
- In the body of the email give the name of the company you work for, what ½ûÂþÌìÌà department is contracting your work, and any other pertinent information you want us to know.
Step 2: Get Fingerprinted
- We will reply to your submission email with a special Fieldprint code and instructions on how to schedule a fingerprint appointment at any Fieldprint site.
- Applicants are required to have completed their fingerprint appointment no more than 60 days after receiving this code.
- Our office is no longer an option for fingerprinting. Please pick any Fieldprint location that is convenient for you.
- Fieldprint charges a $12.50 fee when signing up. This is separate from the ½ûÂþÌìÌà charge.
- Do not schedule a fingerprint appointment if you are volunteering. Your fingerprint application will be voided, and all fees will be forfeited.
Step 3 Photo and badge pick up (501 N Dixon, Portland 97227)
- When your ½ûÂþÌìÌà prelim background check clears, we will send confirmation and a link to schedule a photo/badge pick-up appointment.
- We do not have drop-in hours. Appointments typically take 3–10 minutes, and you get your badge right then.
- Save the photo/badge appointment for last. You must have already attended your fingerprint appointment to get your badge.

High School and middle school summer and school year employees
- Students currently enrolled in an Oregon middle or high school qualify for a "Student Worker" ID badge if they have been hired by a partner organization working in a ½ûÂþÌìÌà school.
- You must currently be enrolled as a student in an Oregon school district and have already been hired to work in a ½ûÂþÌìÌà program.
- Students who have graduated from an Oregon School District within 6 weeks of applying for the student badge still qualify for this badge type for summer employment only. Please contact backgroundcheck@pps.net to verify if you are not sure.

New and Returning ½ûÂþÌìÌà Employees
Please follow the directions you received from your HR talent acquisition contact, or your department hiring manager. They will submit your application for you. Do not submit directly to Security Services.

Contractors
*These instructions are intended for
most paid contractors.*Cab Companies, Teacher Candidates, Interns, and Volunteers have different steps. Please refer to the appropriate tab for those instructions.

Type 10 Contract Drivers
Follow ½ûÂþÌìÌà Student Transportation services instructions before proceeding. You must complete the required class with Student Transportation prior to applying for the background check.

- Fee is $82.00. This covers ½ûÂþÌìÌà and ODE background check costs.
- Complete ½ûÂþÌìÌà Criminal History Verification Form: CHV FORM
- Incomplete forms will not be processed. Please give complete addresses when you are able. At minimum, you must enter the city, state and zip code of where you have resided in the last 10 years.

- In the body of the email state the name of the company you work for, that you are contracting with the transportation dept, and any other pertinent information you want us to know.

Step 1 Prior to submitting a background request to Security Services:
- Ensure you have been accepted into your ½ûÂþÌìÌà intern program
- Verify you have cleared your fingerprint based background check with TSPC
- Do not submit sooner than 45 days prior to your start date and no later than 3 weeks prior.
Step 2 ½ûÂþÌìÌà background check
- Submit a PDF of the fully completed Criminal History Verification Form to Backgroundcheck@pps.net
- Follow all directions. Completely fill out the form. We require 10 years of address history (city, state and zip code).
- State your program type, and ½ûÂþÌìÌà department overseeing your placement.
- You will receive a confirmation email once we have accepted your application. That email will give an estimated completion timeframe for the background check.
Step 3 Photo and badge pick up
Unscheduled visits are not allowed
- You will receive an additional email once we clear your background, confirming you have cleared, and can proceed to this final step.
- Attached to the email will be a link to a scheduling page for photos and badge pick up at the ½ûÂþÌìÌà administration building.
- The entire background check process can take up to 3 weeks during the late summer and fall. Please plan accordingly to be sure you are cleared in time for your start date.

Teacher Candidates (Student Teachers)
Teacher candidates must have first been placed through the Applications should be submitted no sooner than 60 days prior to your placement and no later than 3 weeks prior to your start date.
Check with your school's placement office if you are not sure if you have been issued a placement at a ½ûÂþÌìÌà school or are not sure of your next step.

- You will receive an additional confirmation email once we clear your background, confirming you have cleared, and can proceed to this final step.
- Included in the email will be a link to a scheduling page for photos and badge pick up at the ½ûÂþÌìÌà administration building.
- The full background application process can take 2-3 weeks to complete. Please be cognizant of this timeline when planning for the start of your placement.

SLP Interns
Speech Language Pathology Interns. (SLP)
Because of an odd discord in the state's rules on fingerprinting and the district's admin directives concerning our badging process, we cannot run a full background check on SLP interns, or issue an ID badge for you.
SLP Interns do not qualify for a fingerprint based background check through ODE or TSPC and ½ûÂþÌìÌà cannot issue a badge without one of those.
The only option available for SLP interns is our volunteer background check process. Being cleared as a volunteer still qualifies you to work one on one with students and will be accepted by the school in lieu of a badge. Once cleared in the volunteer database, you will use the school's sign in kiosk to print a badge each day. Should school staff have any questions, please direct them to this site to help explain why you were not issued an ID badge with us.

Background Check and Badge Renewals
Contractors
½ûÂþÌìÌà requires a new fingerprint based background be completed every 3 years.
Please follow the directions from the tab for contractor background checks.
Please note- if you wish to only give us your address history back to the month and year that your last background check was completed, please be sure to let us know when you submit your forms that this is a renewal.
You may request that we reuse your photo from your previous badge. We do not mail ID badges but you may request that it be sent to a school or held for pick up at the PEC building rather than scheduling a photo/badge pick up appointment.
Cab Company Recertifications
Type 10 drivers must renew their badge with us every 3 years along with getting recertified with student transportation services. Transportation may cover your fingerprint fee for renewing/ recertifying drivers. Please check during your recertification classes.
Interns and student teachers
Intern badges are issued for only 1 school year. If you do not complete your placement requirements before your badge expires, you may contact backgroundcheck@pps.net to ascertain if you will need to complete a new background check or if we can extend your current clearance.

Volunteers
Volunteers do not complete these forms. Please see our volunteer page for further additional information.
Volunteer background checks can take up to 4 weeks during peak times of the school year. Only the school office or classroom teacher can request a rush for a background check.

Non standard form: Request for ODE fingerprint information FROM another school district
Please use this form only when you have been fingerprinted with a different Oregon school district in the past and would like to request they share that information with us.

Non standard form: Request ½ûÂþÌìÌà to share ODE fingerprint information with another district
½ûÂþÌìÌà cannot share our background check with any other entities. Our clearance is intended only for district use and should not be used in lieu of a different entity's required background check.
An applicant can request that we share the confirmation that they cleared an ODE fingerprint based background check with another school district.
This form is only to be used if you have previously cleared a fingerprint based background check through ½ûÂþÌìÌà and need to share that information with another Oregon school district.
